The Heard Legacy By Cathy Apple is a narrative retelling of the Heard family's history. Beginning with their journey to Texas, it explores the philanthropic works and business ventures, as well as personal histories of the members of the family. The book contains their history from the late seventeenth century to the late twentieth century, with more emphasis on the late 1800's onward. It expresses the lasting impact they have had on their local community through their support for education, both higher and elementary. One family member's (Katherine's) dream was to create a space that would encourage the education and enlightenment of women as well as the appreciation of the arts. The book contains numerous photographs and paintings aiding in illustrating the members of the family, creating a tone of familiarity and connection all throughout it.
