As a merchant gathers various goods from different countries and carries them home and stores them up, so the Christian may gather edifying thoughts and lay them up in the storeroom of his heart, and enrich his soul with them. Drawing upon numerous examples from daily life and human relationships, St Tikhon weaves together wisdom on how to live a life pleasing to God. His words are frequently embellished by scripture and together these call the reader to repentance and a fuller embrace of godly living. In a world that typically only values material goods his writing constantly reminds the reader of that which is of true value — the knowledge and love of God. The reader also finds encouragement in the struggle to overcome sin and to acquire virtue which is the fundamental battle of the Christian as the war is waged against the passions. It is a fight worth the effort. St Tikhon's message is clear: True riches are not of this world, but of the age to come. These riches both can and should be acquired now. As the reader progresses deeper into this work his soul will find refreshment, purpose and meaning for his life.

The "culture story" of evangelicalism during the second half of the twentieth century has been well told. It is important now to think about the theological mission of the church in an ever-increasing post-Christian and post-partisan context. What is the theologian's calling at the beginning of the third millennium? How do global realities impact the mission of evangelical theology? What sense can be made of the unity of evangelical theology in light of its many diverse voices? This collection of essays draws together a stellar roster of evangelical thinkers with significant institutional memory of the evangelical movement who nonetheless see new opportunities for the evangelical voice in the years ahead. “Wealth without work Pleasure without conscience Science without humanity Knowledge without character Politics without principle Commerce without morality Worship without sacrifice. https://vidjambov.blogspot.com/2023/01/book-inventory-vladimir-djambov-talmach.html If Prayer , or invocation of the name of God, belongs to the threefold Christian duty: to duty to God, duty to oneself and duty to one's neighbor. 1) It is our duty to God to show our faith in Him by prayer and His calling, that we truly believe in Him, we don’t know any other God except Him, we confess the source of all His blessings, hope on Him, as on The True Father, Who loves His children and offers what he asks, just like children in the flesh do not come to a strange father, but to their own, from whom they were born, they come with petition. And the apostle says: “How to call on him in whom they have not believed” ( Rom. 10:14 )? And the Lord God Himself says: “I am the Lord your God” ( Exodus 20: 2 ), that is, know Me alone, confess, trust Me alone and seek all good from Me. “Call Me on the day of your sorrow, and I will deliver you” ***** ( Ps. 49:15 ). 2) Duty in relation to ourselves: since we are both physically and spiritually meager, poor and cursed, we must in faith seek all good from the Giver of all blessings - Heavenly Father. 3) The following applies to the duty concerning the neighbor: Christian love requires us to pray for our neighbor, and both ourselves and him should be asked for good from our God, as the apostle says: “Pray for each other to be healed” ( James 5:16 ).
