How to create the change you want to see in the world using the paradigm-busting ideas in this "utterly fascinating" (Adam Grant) big-idea book. Most of what we know about how ideas spread comes from bestselling authors who give us a compelling picture of a world, in which "influencers" are king, "sticky" ideas "go viral," and good behavior is "nudged" forward. The problem is that the world they describe is a world where information spreads, but beliefs and behaviors stay the same. When it comes to lasting change in what we think or the way we live, the dynamics are different: beliefs and behaviors are not transmitted from person to person in the simple way that a virus is. The real story of social change is more complex. When we are exposed to a new idea, our social networks guide our responses in striking and surprising ways. Drawing on deep-yet-accessible research and fascinating examples from the spread of coronavirus to the success of the Black Lives Matter movement, the failure of Google+, and the rise of political polarization, Change presents groundbreaking and paradigm-shifting new science for understanding what drives change, and how we can change the world around us.

It is difficult to predict or plan change accurately. Every day we face a challenge of making change we want or managing change we face to meet our desire. The Formula for Accelerated Change brings a solution to this problem. This formula enables you to plan the change you want and make it happen quickly. The Formula for Accelerated Change (VxP xAxT=C) translated as 'Visionary People together in Action over Time make Change' is made by four key factors: vision, people, action and time. Each factor is organic in its nature, because it grows with time when nourished with the right ingredients, such as purpose, leadership, innovation, action planning, time management, etc. These ingredients are developed to build the key factors of change. The combination of these factors produces the desired change. The produced change consists of 'improved lives'. This book introduces also a Vision Approach to change, success and sustainable development. It argues that every desired change starts with a vision. A vision gives a purpose to live for and ignites people to act. People working in synergy improve the lives of other people exponentially over time. This book is a guide for helping you to understand and develop the key factors of change (vision, people, action and time) and ultimately will enable you to predict, plan, measure and make the change you want. The Formula for Accelerated Change is your tool to become a visionary leader in an area of your talents. It will help you to realise paradigm shifts and dismantle myths around leadership, success, development and change. You will discover your potential and internal power to change yourself and the world around you. With a clear vision, you will serve others, achieve your purpose and leave an eternal legacy on earth."

Do you often find your emotions controlling your life? You may not realize it, but emotions create a larger impact on your life than you may think. They can form moods that stick around for days or even weeks. Our moods work positively with us, but a lot of times we find they work against us. If we're caught in a negative mood for too long, we tend to sink into patterns of equally negative thought. This way of thinking steals our joy, isolates us from others, and keeps us from becoming the best versions of ourselves. You don't have to live this way, allowing your emotions to wear you down day-to- day. You truly have the potential to learn, grow, and change your outlook on life by using your emotions to your advantage. Change Your Mood...Change Your Life is an emotional guide that contains helpful tactics for recognizing and changing your moods for the better. Each chapter provides methods that neutralize negative thoughts and emotions while inviting positivity back in your life. Through this book you will also learn: What moods are and what factors can affect your moods How to recognize and stop negative emotions from the moment they happen How to use practices, such as mindfulness and meditation, to clear your mind and experience life as it is without judgment or negativity. How to gain a healthy perspective on how you see the world through interacting with others, making positive lifestyle choices, and viewing yourself with kindness. This book also contains concepts often explored in both Dialectal and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, which are commonly used to treat mood disorders. As you study these concepts, you can learn to calmly flow through everyday obstacles. Life should be truly experienced, not bogged down with constant fear and negativity. By utilizing the methods explored in this book, you can change your mood, change your mind, and change your life!

Your Periodic Table of Learning Elements Engaging, effective training programs are a mixture of science and art, requiring the right balance of adult learning theory, available technology, intuitive tools, proven practices, creativity, and risk. How does a trainer find the right combination and proportion of these elements? How does a trainer know what’s possible? To answer these questions, Brian Washburn offers a simple yet elegant periodic table of learning elements modeled on the original periodic table of chemical properties. Washburn’s elements—which are organized into solids, liquids, gases, radioactive, and interactive categories similar to their chemical cousins—are metaphors for the tools and strategies of the field of learning design; when they’re combined, and under certain conditions, they have the potential to create amazing learning experiences for participants. They are that impactful. From critical gas-like elements like the air we breathe, present in every training room (think instructional design or visual design), to radioactive elements, powerful and dangerous yet commonly used (think PowerPoint), Washburn guides you through the pitfalls and choices you confront in creating engaging learning experiences. A well-designed training program can be world-changing, he argues, and if you believe in your craft as a learning professional, you can do this too. Whether you’re an experienced learning designer or new to the field, this book inspires with new ideas and ways to organize the design of your learning programs. With stories from Washburn’s professional experience, the book includes a hands-on glossary of definitions and descriptions for more than 50 of his elements.

A general principle, discovered by Robert Langlands and named by him the "functoriality principle," predicts relations between automorphic forms on arithmetic subgroups of different reductive groups. Langlands functoriality relates the eigenvalues of Hecke operators acting on the automorphic forms on two groups (or the local factors of the "automorphic representations" generated by them). In the few instances where such relations have been probed, they have led to deep arithmetic consequences. This book studies one of the simplest general problems in the theory, that of relating automorphic forms on arithmetic subgroups of GL(n,E) and GL(n,F) when E/F is a cyclic extension of number fields. (This is known as the base change problem for GL(n).) The problem is attacked and solved by means of the trace formula. The book relies on deep and technical results obtained by several authors during the last twenty years. It could not serve as an introduction to them, but, by giving complete references to the published literature, the authors have made the work useful to a reader who does not know all the aspects of the theory of automorphic forms.

'[A] tale of cloak and dagger intrigue, intense rivalries and political machinations you'd expect in a spy thriller.' Engineering & Technology Gross Domestic Product is failing. For decades it has rewarded environmental destruction and obscured inequality. Its formula can be-and has been-gamed to the detriment of developing countries. In this powerfully argued book, now updated with a new chapter, science writer Ehsan Masood shows how GDP fell from the path envisaged by its architects, and how its long-term misapplication has kept large parts of the world in poverty, while helping accelerate global warming and biodiversity loss. As the world rebuilds after the coronavirus pandemic and the accompanying global recession, our need for a more sustainable and inclusive measure of economic growth has never been greater. Change must come if we are to break the cycle. With clarity and passion, Masood shows how we can update GDP for a better future. [previously published as The Great Invention in North America]
