One of the crucial factors which kept Tommy going on the Western Front was his facility to see what was comic in the horror, deprivation and discomfort of trench warfare, an attitude which blossomed further in the rest areas behind the lines. The nature of the comedy ranged from gentle irony to a rougher hilarity that produced on belly laughs. Such laughter could arise from extreme physical pain and discomfort, from the provision of sustenance and from matters relating to dress, equipment and weapons. A further source of fun was bizarre events not dissimilar to situation comedy and pantomime. Moreover, a whole culture of humour surrounded Tommy's words and songs, and many trench pets – cats, dogs, horses, goats, even rats – were in on the joke in one way or another. Nor was it only the British soldiers who managed to find something to laugh about in the trenches – the Germans could sometimes see the funny side as well. A Bloody Picnic provides an unusual perspective on how soliders coped with the grim realities of the First World War.

Inheritance - Henrietta is the complete story of Lady Henrietta Snape and Roman Tyrrell, comprising of Beating the System, Cheating the System, and Defeating the System. A Contemporary Royal Romance with a dash of intrigue, a pinch of drama, and a whole lot of sexual tension. She needs a miracle... Her breath hitched in her throat, a tiny involuntary gasp as she met the unwavering stare of Roman. Lady Henrietta Snape is fiercely independent, incredibly intelligent, and 100% royally screwed. She never stopped loving Roman Tyrrell, despite him destroying her heart at the tender age of sixteen as he bolted from her bed telling her to stay away from him. But now that she’s alone, penniless, and utterly desperate, he’s the only one she can turn to. And he's offering all the answers to her prayers... And there she sat, beyond the medical grade doors, barely ten feet from him, yet unfathomably out of reach. Roman Tyrrell knows he's rich, handsome and utterly privileged; every woman wants him and every man wants to be him. But after making the biggest mistake in his life when he was barely a man, he’s unfulfilled, unsatisfied, and trapped in an engagement he was all but forced into. When Henrietta arrives at his office unexpectedly, Roman has a chance to finally be free of his shackles, marry the woman he loves, and live the life his young self had dreamed of, but the stakes are high and the risks great. If they get caught they’d not only be breaking the law but lying to the King himself. Roman's willing to risk everything for the love of his life, but will Henrietta be wiling to bend the rules just to inherit her share of her father’s fortune? Note the romance between Henrietta and Roman is a steamy slow burn romance. It contains some language and plenty of sexual tension. This box set contains 3 books available separately. This is the second book in The Avalonian Royals Omnibus series. It can be read before Inheritance - Victoria, but it is recommended to read Victoria and Cormac's story first, just to avoid spoilers.

From the author of Her One Mistake, hailed as “chilling, captivating” by New York Times bestselling author Megan Miranda, comes a riveting new suspense novel about three ambitious women whose lives are turned upside down in the aftermath of a horrifying fire, which destroys a successful advertising agency and threatens to expose a tangled web of lies. Laura has returned to work at Morris and Wood after her maternity leave, only to discover that the woman she brought in to cover for her isn’t planning on going anywhere. Despite her close relationship with the agency’s powerful CEO, Harry Wood, she feels sidelined—and outmaneuvered—as she struggles to balance the twin demands of work and motherhood. Mia was only supposed to be a temporary hire at Morris and Wood, but she’s managed to make herself indispensable to everyone. Everyone, that is, except Laura. If people only knew why she was so desperate to keep her job, they might not want her to stay. Janie gave up everything to support her husband and the successful agency he runs. But she has her own dark secret to protect…and will go to any lengths to keep it safe. With signature prose lauded as “breathtaking” and “bone-chilling” by USA TODAY bestselling author Cristina Alger and plenty of shocking twists and turns, Three Perfect Liars is an unputdownable thriller for fans of Watching You and The Couple Next Door.

Tim Price's Salt, Root and Roe is a heartbreaking, humorous tale of love and family set against a mythical backdrop. Set on the Pembrokeshire coast in West Wales, identical twins Iola and Anest remain devoted to each other. Ageing fast, and with the time they have together more fragile by the day, they arrive at a desperate decision. Word of this reaches Anest's daughter Menna, who rushes to her long abandoned childhood home where her own ideas of love and compromise are tested to the limit. In spite of the sombre themes of death and bereavement, the writing is light, textured and at times very funny: picking out moments of joy and sadness with seemingly effortless grace. Touching relationships and believable characterisation provide a poignant backdrop to Salt, Root and Roe, where pragmatism, exhausted lives and childrens' fairytales collide in this exploration of grief, loss and acceptance.
