Excerpt from Biographical Memoir of the Late Rev. Charles Wellbeloved The narrative, even of a life so uniform and so tranquil, might have an interest of its own, if means existed for tracing the earliest influences by which the character was formed, and its growth and development in advancing years; and laying open the thoughts and feelings of the mind, during the most important crises of life. The materials for such a history have sometimes been found in an autobiographical sketch, in a diary, in a copious and varied correspondence, or in oral communications. In the present case, all these materials are scanty. A very brief notice of his school and college life is all that Mr. Wellbeloved has left; his diaries are little more than hour-tables of each day's work and engagements, valuable as evidence of the methodical employment of his time, and the variety of his occupations, but generally without detail of events, or expression of sentiment.
