This third annual report on the implementation of the Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Research, Development and Demonstration Act of 1976 (Public Law 94-413, as amended by Public Law 95-238) complies with the reporting requirements established in Section 14 of the Act. In addition to informing the Congress of the progress and plans of the Department's Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Program, this report is intended to serve as a communication link between the Department and all of the public and private interests involved in making the program a success. There has been a large increase in program activities during FY 1979. Market demonstrations are coming into fruition and technological successes have been achieved. Delivery of the Electric Test Vehicle -1and the general achievements and interest noted in the EHV industry indicate that measurable progress is being made toward the realization that electric and hybrid vehicles will contribute to reducing this country's dependence on petroleum.
